Types of therapy offered & philosophy
My focus with someone is strength-based, collaborative, practical and present time oriented. In therapy I work to develop a strong therapeutic relationship based on trust, respect, compassion and confidentiality. I utilize a variety of ways to assist someone to understand, cope with, and make positive changes in order to manage and reduce their distress. My approach in psychotherapy draws on my education, training and experience in psychodynamic therapies, the use of cognitive-behavioral techniques, psycho-education and coaching. I look forward to working with both adult women and men of all races, religion, and sexual orientation.
Background
I have over twenty six years of counselling and psychotherapy experience working in a variety of settings to include: inpatient & outpatient psychiatry, 90 day inpatient substance abuse treatment, outpatient drug & alcohol treatment and private practice since 1998.
I earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Human Development & Family Relations from the University of Connecticut in 1980, a Master of Arts, (MA) in Community Psychology from the University of New Haven (CT) in 1982 and a Masters in Social Work, (MSW) from Simmons College School of Social Work in Boston, MA in 1989. I am a licensed independent clinical social worker in both Vermont and Connecticut.
