Types of therapy offered & philosophy
I believe the most important aspect of therapy is building a collaborative, safe, and non-judgmental therapeutic relationship. I know it can be very difficult to seek help, and therefore I feel building trust is the first essential step to the process. I know that what works for one person does not work for all, so I draw upon different modalities based on your individual needs and preferences. This includes: mindfulness based and strength based approaches, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Narrative therapy, and brief-solution focused therapy.
I am dually licensed and therefore can assist those with mental health and/or substance abuse challenges. I work with individuals who are experiencing a wide range of concerns. I believe that everyone has a capacity for change and I thoroughly enjoy being a part of that process.
The work I do is truly collaborative. We will set goals together and assess progress as we work together. In addition we will identify any road blocks or triggers that may be hindering progress and work to overcome them.
My education background includes a B.A. in Sociology from Stonehill College in North Easton, MA (1996) and an MSW from the University of Vermont in Burlington, Vermont (1999). I have had a private practice in Barre, Vermont for the past 6 years. However, I have been assisting clients in various capacities for 16 years. My work is primarily with preteens, teens, adults, and the elderly. In addition, I provide clinical supervision for clinicians working on licensure.
